While drilling out the Hebrew text I was surprised to see that the pages would no longer lay flat, but instead their edges extended out in a wing-like formation like a bird about to take flight. In that moment, the book became for me a visual metaphor for the Jewish people fleeing captivity in Egypt. The tattered white paper edges along each word appeared as miniature shrouds.
