Modernism is based upon a book about four modernist painters, Kandinsky, Klee, Matisse and Picasso. The book is sliced into strips then stacked on top of one another. After configuring the individual strips, they are taped together creating a perpetual replay of the abstracted content, scanning or taking in a quick read of the entire book. The alternating current of peaks and valleys references both the admiration for these artists and their falling out of favor at certain times. Modernism also refers to the daily modulations of the stock market and precarious art investments in an unstable economy.
