Uroboros

1987
alfalfa seed, straw, steel
40 x 36 x 36 in.
The Uroboros as it appears today, its circular form dismantled and the dried, earth-toned remnants stacked up as a monument to the cycle of birth and death. In the mode of Robert Smithson’s “spaceman-caveman” theory, this object seems to have ambiguous origins—is it an artifact of an ancient indigenous people or space aliens?
